PROJECT 9: (GROUP) INTEGRATED PROJECT (ANGLE)

Process of Designing A Pavilion

We were given a task to design a single storey freestanding structure, also known as pavilion which will function as a Information Center for USM. Besides that, it also acts as a landmark for USM's APEX University status. There are four basic spaces for the pavilion, which are exhibition space, sitting room, sales area and toilet facilities.

The site of the project is located at the USM's convocation site and it is less than 2500 meter square.

After the site visit, we did some site analysis such as sun pathway, ventilation, vegetation, circulation, pedestrian movement and noise.

These are some example of our site analysis and the bubble diagram of the project.

After the site visit, we finally have some ideas and concept in designing the pavilion. Adhering to the  theme of  'Mission and Vision of USM, the design concept of our pavilion is a modern designed building with sustainable and green materials such as timber and glass. We using concept of intelligent building, means that intelligent in control technologies, which allow integration, automation, optimization of all the services and equipment that provide services and manages the environment of the pavilion. Buildings with different functions are connected each other by the pathway for public convenience. Plant surrounding are taken into consider in the building design to stand for the concept of the green building.

Besides that, we compiled a report of the Development Proposal of the USM's Free Standing Structure that comprises the details of building services and maintenance aspects of the building as well, which are the electrical installation, lighting systems, building security systems, fire prevention and control systems, HVAC systems, water supply, piping systems, sanitary systems, etc.

To be precise, we drew the floor plan, elevations and perspectives using autoCAD and sketch up.

Colouring the plans of elevations.

This is the rough calculation of the actual costs for the pavilion designed by our group.

There is a connection between the exhibition area and the office.

The presentation boards consist of the key plan, location plan, site analysis, plan of elevations, floor plans, perspective and the interior design of the pavilion.
