The theme of 2011/2012 exhibition is “ From Noting to Something”. As an architecture students, I also took part in designing the banner to invite lectures and other students to the RUS 104 Studio Exhibition.

In order to exhibit the individual assignments, I did an A3 size portfolio to accommodate and protect all my assignments during semester one.

Besides that, I also photographed all the previous project and pasted it onto an A1 size mounting board.

And this is my booth!

This is our group 10 booth for exhibiting the group works done by us during semester one.

Academic Visit to Malacca

Malacca is known as the historical state of Malaysia due to its rich history in being one of the earliest Malay-sultanates. From the academic visit to Malacca, besides enjoying ourselves tremendously during the trip, we had learned about cooperation in a group. We are given two weeks to accomplish the group project 10 after coming back from the academic trip in Malacca. Therefore, in order to work efficiently, we decided to divide our group members into a smaller group, each responsible for a particular task. Everyone is required to draw two sketches of significant decorations, ornaments, structural icons or motifs. Ros Nurlina Rosli is responsible to prepare the table of content; Shu Jye and Yet Soong are responsible in taking care of the aspect of case study whereas Uyue ,  Syuhada, Jie Cheng, Myrul Sayhye and Suzila Desa are responsible in searching some relevant info on comunity facilities for Rumah Melaka, Istana Kesultanan Melaka, rumah penghulu Md Natar, River Cruise, Menara Taming Sari, Gereja St Paul, Muzium Stadthuys, Kompleks Falak Al-Khawarizmi, Rumah Laksamana Cheng Ho and Kota A Famosa. Finally, Faridah Mamat is responsible for the photos whereas Hooi Ching, Siew Ying and Wan Cheng are responsible in doing the summary.

After visiting Malacca, we had more understand about the history of Malacca especially through the visit to Malacca Sultanate Palace and Museum of Islamic World Malay World on the first day. There are many ornaments in the building which show different stories included the ornaments of Hang Tuah and Hang Jebat in order to show the greatness of institution of the monarchy as a cultural heritage of the Malays who had led the State of Malacca once recalls the history of disputes as well as Hang Tuah and Hang Jebat and lessons from the incident. The museum provides the functions and role of the court at that time by displaying Balairong Series, Royal and sleeping room stations representing Malay civilization. Besides that, we also went to Al-Khwarizmi Astronomy Complex. This complex is a facility provided by the Malacca State Government to study and explore the secrets of creation of astronomy and the universe. On second day, we managed to view the whole city of Melaka, the historical sites and other major buildings instantly through the Melaka Tower, also known as Menara Taming Sari. After spending three days in Malacca, we were able to get some references about the arrangement and space for exhibition and sitting space through the visits. In addition, we knew more about the structure and materials used in the buildings.

In short, we are able to adapt ourselves and gain experiences which can provide exposure of the actual built environment atmosphere and may be useful to us in Project 9 through the academic visit. We realize that Malacca has many community facilities that have aesthetic value. Besides that, this project also trains us to have a higher sensitivity in our visual observation to detect some elements such as buildings, structures or facilities surrounding us. Undeniably, this academic trip brings lots of benefits to us.
